What are the Selection Criteria for the UP Police SI Post, and How is the Final Merit List Prepared?
The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board (UPPRPB) determines the Uttar Pradesh Police SI (Sub-Inspector) Selection Process to hire applicants of a good standard. However, before proceeding with the selection process, candidates must ensure that they meet the qualifying requirements.
The nature of an SI’s job is highly demanding, and they have to approach their responsibilities with vigour and strength. Therefore, the UP Police SI Selection process tests the candidates’ abilities in diverse disciplines. You must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a UP Police SI.

Selection procedure for UP Police SI
Candidates for the UP Police SI post should be informed of the various stages of the selection process to prepare appropriately. A candidate’s sole concentration should be on doing well and completing each step.
There are four stages of selection in this exam:
- Written exam
- Document verification and physical standard test (PST)
- PET (Physical Efficiency Test) is a medical examination that measures how physically efficient you are
- Medical examination, especially vision efficiency
Stage I: Written examination
The two-hour-long written examination is the first part of the UP Police Sub-Inspector selection process. The test will consist of objective questions.

Stage II: Physical Standard Test (PST) and Document Verification
Physical Standard Test
Candidates who pass the first step must now demonstrate that they are physically fit. The process takes into account their height and chest measurements.
These measurements vary depending on the category. In addition, male and female candidates have different measurements. The table below provides the specifications.

Note: The UPPRPB requires males to have a chest expansion of at least 5 cm and ladies to weigh 40 kg. In the case of females, chest measures are not applicable.
Document Verification
To be considered for Stage III, candidates must also pass the document verification stage. These documents usually include mark sheets, passport-size pictures, and photo ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, etc.).
Make sure you have all of your originals with you as you go through the process. In addition, any fraudulent documents or forged signatures discovered at any time may result in the candidate’s disqualification.
Stage III: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
The physical efficiency test consists of a running race that is the same for all male categories but different for all female categories. This stage is open to candidates who have completed all of the previous phases. The table below will give you additional information about the race.
Stage IV: Medical examination
In this final stage, the UPPRPB will determine the candidates’ medical fitness by considering the conditions listed below.
- In the event of both eyes without correction, i.e., without glasses, the minimum distance vision should be 6/6 and 6/9.
- In the case of each eye, full-field vision should be available.
- Squint, colour blindness, or any other pathological disease of one or both eyes will result in disqualification.
Note: All candidates should know that all of the phases mentioned earlier are only qualifying in nature.
UP Police SI Merit List
According to state government regulation, the final merit list will be compiled based on the marks earned in the written test for each category. This list will be given to the competent department for medical examination/document verification. The board will not create a waiting list. If two or more candidates have the same score, the preference list will be sorted according to the following criteria:
If the candidates match the criteria mentioned above, they will be granted preference based on the alphabetical order of their names as listed on their high school diploma.
